Furniture Floor Pads / Glides

'Made to any size or shape'

Return to CustomCrit Main Page

These custom furniture glides or foot pads are made to order and are available in any size or shape that you may require. They are made from a very dense yet supple leather that far exceeds the performance of any product that you can buy retail. Once securely glued to the bottom of the furniture they will protect your floor by remaining supple while standing up to a significant amount of activity. In comparison felt products can wear down quickly and lose their ability to protect your floor and plastic glides will tend to mark and scar your floor due to their hardness. The leather also is natural and undyed, thus ensuring no floor discoloration.

Attaching the Glides to Furniture - Because leather is a porous substance, many glues will bond it effectively. So when attaching the leather glides to furniture take into account what type of surface the leather is gluing to. A two part epoxy will work well with most surfaces but there are a wide variety of strong glues that will also create a lasting bond. If your furniture has factory glides (usually made of metal or plastic, both harmful to the floor) it is advisable to remove them before attaching the leather glides.

Ideally you want to glue the flesh side (also described as rough or suede side) to the furniture and the smooth side should face the floor. If you get it reversed don't worry as it probably won't make any difference. Also note that the thickness varies on different parts of the hide, so some glides will be thicker than others. Putting glides of different thicknesses on the same piece of furniture may not make any difference at all as the leather will tend to compress. Matching glides of the same thickness in pairs or fours though will doubly assure that the furniture will be level.

The basic procedure for gluing is to apply a thin film on both the glide and the furniture leg bottom and let them dry separately for a few minutes until the glue becomes a little tacky. Then position the glide on the bottom of the leg and press firmly until it sticks on its own. If it does not stick right away put a little more glue on, wait a few minutes and try again. Once the glides are on the weight of the furniture will usually hold them in place as the glue sets. If possible let the glue dry for 24 hours before moving the furniture.

Measuring Size - Simply measure the area of the furniture leg or base that touches the floor. If you want me to do this for you I charge $25 an hour plus travel time and gas expense.

How to Order - Send me the type, size and quantity of what you want. For orders $25 or under I'll send the glides to you with an invoice and you can then send me a check. For orders over $25 I will need to receive payment before shipping.

Since the glides are custom made to order, there are no refunds or returns. All sales are final. If you would like to try out the glides before ordering I will be happy to send you a sample in one of the smaller sizes.
