To Answer Your Questions . . .
Q. What styles are available? A. We are producing standard English Trail style, Hybrid and Dressage style SENSATIONS. Q. Can I put saddle, cantle and pommel bags on? A. Yes. Standard nylon trail bags mate well. We use and recommend Stowaway packs. Q. What sizes does the SENSATION come in? A. The SENSATION has a standard adult size - the equivalent of a 15" western seat. Custom sizes are available in a custom order. Q. Is there a break-in period? A. There is a very short break-in period for the SENSATION which allows the inner materials to conform to you and your horse. Q. Can you mount from the ground? A. Although we advise riders to mount from blocks and from both sides for the benefit of the horse's spine, the Sensation can be mounted from the ground once it is “broke-in” This is a very individual thing. If you have problems mounting in a treed saddle you will probably have problems mounting from the ground into the SENSATION. Q. What disciplines have riders used the Sensation in? A. Riders are using their SENSATIONS for trail/pleasure, endurance, dressage, hippo-therapy, on gaited horses, draft horses, mules & children's ponies. Q. Can I use the Sensation directly on my horse? A. The SENSATION is not meant to be placed directly on the back of the horse. A good quality saddle pad should be used under the SENSATION to protect your pad from sweat and grime. Q. Can I use it on many different horses? A. Yes. It conforms nicely to many shapes and sizes. Q. What gives this saddle stability? A. There are a number of features which contribute to the stability. The pad and girth used along with your Sensation can make a substantial difference as well! Q. Will I need to use a crupper & breastplate to keep it from sliding? A. We recommend breastplates on saddles as a general rule - for safety, but whether or not a crupper will be required will largely depend on your riding style, your horse's build and the terrain you ride on. Q. Any other things may I notice in my horse & my riding? A. If your horse has had restriction from treed saddles in the past, your horse may show some extra energy. You may notice some muscle soreness for the first few rides until your body adjusts to the change in your center of balance and different seat feeling. Q. Will the stirrups bog down on the horses back - as with some other treeless saddles? A. We use a multi-point attachment system to maximize weight distribution over the entire pad from the rigging and stirrups. Q. Does the SENSATION provide spine and wither clearance? A. When properly fitted and mated to the correct pad you will find a surprising amount of spinal clearance on your horses' back. Wither clearance is present but minimal on some horses. However, this not as so much of an issue as it would be with a treed saddle because it contains only soft materials next to the horse. Q. Why are there so many different layers of material? A. We have carefully chosen materials for breath-abilty, shock absorption and durability. The SENSATION has been designed with the sandwich concept in mind. One side which is ideal for the horses' comfort, one side ideal to the rider and a buffer zone in the middle. We are believers in natural / breathable materials wherever possible. Q. Are there adjustable components on the Sensation? A. A surprising number of components are adjustable and/or replaceable. The stirrups may be adjusted fore and aft, the seat can be bolstered in the front, rear or center, the weight distribution piece may be moved to accommodate your horses' back shape, the cantle may be reduced, and the knee blocks may be moved or removed. Q. How did the design come about? A. In 1993 Nickers began making a similar design meant to meet the need for a sort of saddle which has minimal weight, minimal restriction for the horse, yet offered security and comfort to the rider. An elaborate bareback pad was the start of the design. Today, after much testing, materials changes and refinement in design, the Sensation Ride is not just a saddle, but has developed into a line of saddles and accessories - all geared toward the most natural and alose contract ride you can have. Q. Are velcro-on stirrup leathers secure? A. We wanted the riders to have options - one important option is stirrup position. Velcro is pretty amazing, just try to pull it apart sideways! |

These choices can be discussed at the time of your order subject to availability. The Generation 3 "Sensation Ride TM" all-leather version incorporates all the most popular features of the original Sensation design with the added benefits of improved materials in the seat for rider comfort, leather bound edges and overall firmer materials. As with the original Sensation Ride - the G3 is well suited to the round backed, low-withered horse. Breeds typically having this conformation include, but not limited to, Andalusians, Friesians, Morgans, Missouri Fox trotters, Icelandics, Draft and draft crosses, Arabians and Fjords. The Sensation is best mated to a breathable, shock absorbing, contoured saddle pad. Regular stirrup irons or endurance stirrups fit well to the stirrup leathers provided. Standard Hunt breastplates are recommended and mate with the Sensation G3 English Trail. Also available is the Sensation self-centering girth, a girth that has been designed to maximize the benefits of the Sensation Ride. Standard dressage girths will also fit the Sensation Ride. Nylon Stowaway packs attach nicely to any of the Sensation Ride models and provide great storage. Current Sensation stirrup attachment description NO PICTURES AVAILABLE In all Sensation models, stirrups are attached by an approximate 4.75" x 7" movable industrial strength velcro piece with closed stainless steel low profile rectangular rings. This attachment accommodates your choice of Sensation 'hard use' leathers (INCLUDED AS STANDARD) which buckle at the base of the flap OR 1" English style leather 'free swing' (NOT INCLUDED). For your comfort free swing English style leathers are best used with the buckle at the bottom (see our close contact stirrup leathers for an example click here for info). |
